Building A Legacy of Impact
We helped shape a new era for the Allen Institute as it graduated from a small, neuroscientist-focused nonprofit into an international icon for big, team, and open science.
The Opportunity
Following its first chapter as an open neuroscience data portal, the Allen Institute was ready to grow and expand into its final form. This meant capturing a new, broader audience with material that resonated beyond the lab—and building a legacy of research and leadership that would stand the test of time.
The Work
A rebrand of the Allen Institute for Brain Science into a full umbrella brand experience: the Allen Institute. From creating an architecture of institute brands (and launching two new ones, the Allen Institute for Cell Science and The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group) to bringing the new generation of online data portals to life, we shepherded the institute into its current and future era as an internationally recognized beacon of big, open, and team-led life science.

Each year, we collected top stories from across the Institute and featured them in an elegant report that featured photographs, science visualizations, and compelling articles in both print and digital formats.
Brand Architecture
Bioscience and Philanthropy Summit
We coached more than 20 world-class scientists across biology, genetics, engineering, immunology, computational biology, and memory through presentations at a one-of-a-kind event that bred potent connections between potential funders and science pioneers.
Allen Cell Atlas
We worked hand in hand with scientists at the Allen Institute for Cell Science to build an accessible tool for researchers to explore the complexity of human stem cells, from detailed images to purchasable cell lines.
Science Visualizations
We partnered with researchers across the Institute to create and share dynamic visualizations of data, sparking curiosity and fascination among scientists and non-scientists alike.
